Themida (or Themis) is the Greek Goddess of Justice, daughter of the Titans Gaia and Uranus (Earth and Sky). She is the personification of law and order, as well as fairness, justice and custom. On a symbolic level, Themis represents "divine law" rather than physical order. The name Themis stems from the Greek word tithemi, "to put"…literally, "that which is put in place". She guided the organisation of society and counselled on the right and just customs by which communities lived and worked.

In this way, Themida is the basic principle by which Thesmia operates: maintaining traditions and customs in our present-day communities; preserving the techniques and handicrafts that have been passed down from generation to generation; and honouring the craftsmanship that can be seen in all our handmade designs.
